I thought I was being stealthy, having a moment alone on the back porch, overlooking the water and vibrant green all around me, with horses off to the left, and castle remains across the water. It was about 9:00 am and everyone else was still asleep. Bliss, breezy, with sunshine sparkling off of the water. I took a step back inside to warm up.
In walks dad, suited up for the cold, and greets me with “you want a coffee too?”
The unspoken, “we might be the only ones up for a while, stealing the view with no shame” was shared as we sat with our coffee.
Dad trumped me with an attire 3 mile walk under his belt before I even thought to stumble outside! I am my father’s daughter though!
One by one everyone else filed into the kitchen, joined in on the coffee, and gasped at the gorgeous view that we weren’t able to see last night in the pitch black.
We spent the day somewhat quietly, getting our bearings. Mom and dad went on a walk around near where the remains of the castle are across the water. Joe and Dad went back in to the main part of town and grabbed groceries for things we needed for Thanksgiving dinner (the list consisted of bread, wine, coke, sprite, spider spray, and other small items.) There wasn’t a grocery store close by, so they made do at a gas station but managed to get everything that was on the list! Sans the pumpkin pie, we forgive the well-stocked gas station since we already have Nutella on-hand!
Bronte and Trevor went on a short walk and found an abandoned stone house all covered in vines, so beautiful!
Tanner sat quietly on the couch, so much so we had no idea he was there for a while!
I got a nice hot shower, relaxed, and then worked on a few discussion posts. I got gram and mom to braid my hair, it feels so good!
The landlord then showed up (in a pink v-neck sweater vest, with long hair, and a long string bean body I might add) and made sure we had enough peat brick things for the fireplace and enough restaurant recommendations, it was nice to meet him and experience the thick accent!
Bronte spent a bit researching what we are going to do tomorrow (possibly take a ferry to a nearby island and get knitty gritty and milk the goats.) The boys went outside and kicked the soccer ball around that they picked up in Dublin! A 4.50 euro soccer ball was too perfect to pass up!
The sun bounced in and out of the clouds, and it rained a little!
We all at some point made it back to the kitchen, which meant it was time to start cooking! Joe and mom had prepared the Turkey earlier and put it in the oven. Gram peeled the potatoes, and Joe made the gravy for his first time!
We had green beans with bacon bits, mashed potatoes, bread, turkey, gravy, stuffing, red wine, white sparkling wine… it was yummy! We are pretty proud of that for finding the things we needed in a different country that doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, with partial ingredients from a gas station!
Gram brought us turkey day hats and of course pictures had to happen!
We all boycotted dishes and hung out at the couch and enjoyed (or at least pretended) each other’s company!
We watched a little bit of TV, and now everyone is trickling off to bed!
Love you all!
